Part
Factions
You might say: civilizations, races, leaders
The empires a player can choose from, each with its own bonuses, units or rules.
- What it does
- Makes each game start from a different plan by changing units, rules or play style.
- Ask
- Does each faction change how the player plays, or only by a few percent?
What to look for
- A faction or leader picker before the game
- Unique units and buildings in the build menu
Parts
- Faction traits: The bonuses, units, buildings or rules that set one faction apart from the others.
- Dominant strategy: A strategy that beats the alternatives so often that it removes the choice.
- Faction win rate: A record of how often each faction wins and how often players choose it.
Catalogue: Asymmetry
- Unique bonuses: Each faction shares the core rules but gets distinct units, buildings or abilities.
- Unique mechanics: Each faction changes a core rule or resource, so it plays very differently.
- Custom faction: The player builds a faction from a list of traits with point costs.
