Deliberation time
You might say: how long I have to decide
Deliberation time is the interval in which the player can inspect and compare alternatives before a deadline or changing state forces commitment. Shortening it adds pressure without adding new rules.
- What it does
- Balances the reasoning burden against the intended tempo and player skill.
- Ask
- Is failure caused by the intended time challenge, or by insufficient time to read the interface?
- Typical
- Set a decision deadline or threat speed; alternatively pause world time while choosing. Do not confuse real-world turn deadlines with in-world action duration.
- Trouble
- Novices cannot read their choices before commitment, or unlimited thinking stalls a shared match.
What to look for
- An interval before a deadline
- A changing state before commitment
