Pattern chunking
You might say: recognition compression, meaningful configuration
Pattern chunking is the recurring compression by which a meaningful chess configuration becomes one retrievable unit: a tactical relation, mating net, opening setup, piece placement, pawn structure, or known ending. The unit still needs a legality and applicability check when the board changes.
- Ask
- Which recurring relations can be named as one unit, and what changed condition would make the chunk fail?
