Concept
Immersion
You might say: the fictional dream, getting lost in a book
The feeling of living inside the story. Gardner calls good fiction a “vivid and continuous dream”.
- What it does
- Lets the story work on the reader without them noticing the words.
- Ask
- What could wake the reader from the dream here?
- Trouble
- Head-hopping, confusing exposition or a jarring word pulls the reader out.
